The Waukesha Preservation Alliance (WPA has received a $5000 challenge grant from the Wisconsin Preservation Fund to assist in the acquisition and preservation of the Bartles-Maguire Gas Station at 422 E. Broadway. The Waukesha Preservation Alliance needs to raise about $25000 by August 3rd to preserve this property.
The building (also known as Wally’s Service Station and later the “fruit stand’) is located on the corner of Broadway and Hartwell and is a rare house-style gas station. The building was made a City of Waukesha local landmark in 2010 and is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Individuals, the Waukesha Preservation Alliance, and the Waukesha Landmarks Commission have been working to find an interested buyer to preserve this important Waukesha Landmark. The WPA has identified several potential buyers but funding is needed to make this sale a reality.
The Wisconsin Preservation Fund is acting as the fiscal agent and has set up an account for this project. Therefore, checks can be made to Wisconsin Preservation Fund with a notation that it is for the Bartles-Maguire Gas Station then sent to:
