This morning, the Y.M.C.A. was successful in their efforts to raze the Bartles-Maguire gas station. It is very sad that Waukesha has lost a rare landmark that so many people in the community wanted to save. Thanks to everyone who contributed time and money to try to save this ‘last of it’s kind’ properties.
The YMCA did allow WPA to salvage some items from the building. One of the items was the clock which appears to be all original. It is milk glass with the numerals painted on the reverse side. The hands and mechanism are also original. Someone had put electrical tape for numerals on the front, probably so that they wouldn’t have to illuminate it anymore. The clock was given to Wally Dibben’s family.
