WPA Makes It Through First Round For A Grant From Pepsi Co.

Waukesha, Wisconsin, October 24, 2011. The Waukesha Preservation Alliance (WPA), a group dedicated to preserving historic properties in Waukesha, has made it through the first round of the Pepsi Refresh competition for a $50,000 grant. This grant will be used for the first phase of developing the historic Bartles-Maguire gas station at 422 E. Broadway into a tourism center and rest area for the bike trail. The first phase involves acquiring the building and making repairs that are needed to get an occupancy permit. Efforts Underway to Preserve Bartles-Maguire Gas Station

The Waukesha Preservation Alliance (WPA has received a $5000 challenge grant from the Wisconsin Preservation Fund to assist in the acquisition and preservation of the Bartles-Maguire Gas Station at 422 E. Broadway. The Waukesha Preservation Alliance needs to raise about $25000 by August 3rd to preserve this property. The building (also known as Wally’s Service Station and later the “fruit stand’) is located on the corner of Broadway and Hartwell and is a rare house-style gas station.
